In previous posts we have discussed how to enable SNMPv1 support on your APC UPS for remote monitoring. Here we are going to leverage this configuration to allow pfSense to monitor your UPS and protect it from outages!
The first step is to install the nut package on pfSense, if it is not installed yet. Go to System >> Package Manager
If nut is not listed on the Installed Packages tab, click on Available Packages, search for nut and click on Install.
Click on Confirm and then you should see a log window listing the installation progress. Do not close this window before it is completed!
Now it is time to configure nut by going to Services >> UPS menu
Next, you should see a dashboard for the UPS, which will inform you that monitoring is not enabled… yet
Click on UPS Settings tab, click on UPS Type radio box and select Remote snmp
Next, filling UPS Name with any friendly name and Remote IP address or hostname with the IP or hostname of your APC UPS NMC and press Save
As soon as you save, you should see the UPS status, something like this
That is it. Have safe fun now!
